I understand the appeal of the cheapest insurance quote. Insurance is a bill you pay and hope you never use. It makes sense to minimize that bill.

But there's a difference between smart savings and false savings. Here's what the lowest quote often leaves out — and what that costs you when something actually happens.

### The State Minimum Trap

The cheapest policies are often built around state minimums. In Texas, that means 30/60/25 liability coverage. It keeps you legal. It does not keep you protected.

A single at\-fault accident involving serious injuries can generate hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical bills and legal liability. State minimums cover a fraction of that. Anything above your limits is your responsibility — personally.

### Actual Cash Value vs. Replacement Cost

Budget policies often default to actual cash value coverage for your home's contents. That means when your belongings are stolen or destroyed, the payout is based on depreciated value — what your belongings were worth, not what it costs to replace them.

Your three\-year\-old television. Your laptop. Your furniture. Depreciated. The payout may not come close to covering replacement.

### The Claims Experience

Price is not the only variable. Not all insurance is equal in how claims are handled. The cheapest policy may have slower claims processing, stricter coverage interpretations, or less experienced adjusters.

I tell clients: you don't really know what your insurance is worth until you file a claim. At that point, it's too late to choose differently.

### What Smart Savings Actually Looks Like

There's a real way to lower your insurance costs without gutting your coverage: bundling home and auto, maintaining a clean record, reviewing your coverage regularly to avoid paying for things you don't need, and choosing the right deductible.

I'll help you find those savings. What I won't do is recommend coverage I wouldn't be comfortable having myself.
